3 Simple Tips for a Stress-Free Move + Moving Supply Checklist
After moving our family across town, across the state, and now, across the country, I’ve learned a thing (or a million) about moving. I've always wanted to share my tips but since it's been about 6 years since our last move, it really never felt right. Now that I'm in the moving mindset, I knew it was time to share my best tips with you!
1. Make a plan
You know I love a good planning session and this is no different! If you want your move to be stress-free, you have GOT to sit down, take some time, and make a plan.
Work backwards from the move date and schedule all of it. Here are some things you'll want to schedule:
Movers
Garage sale
Donation Pickup
Dumpster drop-off
I put together this awesome Guide to a Stress-Free move that will help you do just this. It's loaded with planning sheets, checklists, and tips to really make your move as painless as possible and it's split into four phases so you can implement it on any timeline.
2. Declutter
There is no sense in packing and moving and unpacking things you don't love or use! As soon as you know you're going to move, start decluttering. The less stuff you have in your home when it's time to pack, the easier it's going to be!
Start by taking an assessment of your home. Room by room, figure out what you want to get rid of and what you want to keep. If you haven't used it in a year and you don't love it, out it goes.
Don't have a garage sale unless you have the time and energy. They really don't make you a lot of money and you can probably make more selling higher ticket items on a local selling group.
My Ultimate Declutter System has helped thousands of people all over the world get rid of the clutter for good. You get access to my Declutter System right here.
3. Be Prepared
I know I just told you to get rid of anything and everything you don't love or need. But there are some things you'll want to keep on hand for sure! No sense in running to the store a hundred times to grab more supplies.
My Must Have Moving Supplies
Before you go out and buy a bunch of stuff, be sure to use what you have. I will always always always suggest this. Gather all of your supplies and keep them in one place and if there are any of the items you're missing, I've linked my favs below.
